My New House

Habitat Kid; Age 12

In our old house, I remember my mom having to work overtime in the winter to pay for the gas bill.  My mom didn’t tell me everything, but, I remember her saying that we had to pay over $600.  I know that is a lot of money, but she always worked hard to pay our bills.  When we got our new house she told me that it is energy efficient.  I studied that in school so I know that means saving us money.

This summer I remember mom working every Friday saying her feet hurt, but I knew she was working hours at Habitat for our house.  We didn’t have birthday parties this year, because she said she needed to save money for our house.  We always had birthday parties so I knew it hurt my mom to not give us a party.  We were upset, but when I saw our new house I really didn’t care anymore.

I really love my new house!  I like the idea that my room is mine and nobody has ever had it before.  I like going to my room, and shutting my door and not being bothered.  I like my new house because everything is new, and there is more room.

We have nice neighbors and friends that respect our house.

Reading that makes me realize how lucky I am to have a cozy home for my family and a little boy with his own room to play in.  I’ve done volunteer shooting for Habitat for the past 3 years now and each year I grow more and more attached to the concept behind the organization.  Providing affordable housing for a family that just need a little boost.   Up until now I’ve donated my time and images to them but this winter I had this brilliant idea to do something more.  So, I met with some local business’ and organized a weekend full of family portrait sessions.  Dandelions Flowers and Gifts, Jack’s Camera Shop, Gill Brothers Furniture, Habitat for Humanity and Kishel Photography are all putting our resources together to create gorgeous sets and some fun family portrait opportunities for you!   Here’s the deal, call Habitat for Humanity to schedule your portrait session for the weekend of March 12,13 or 14.    Every session fee and 20% of all sales will be donated to our local Muncie Habitat for Humanity!  In this economy, now more than ever Habitat needs your help to build new houses.  Delaware County families are looking for affordable, safe, efficient housing.  Currently there are 9 families (14 children) in the Habitat program.  They’re learning how to take care of home, manage their finances, cook healthy meals…it’s so much more than building a house…they’re building homes.  Homes for families, homes for children, homes for our community.  Take this opportunity to give Habitat families the gift of home.  Schedule your session with Kishel Photography for March 12,13 or 14.  We’ll have a fun session and give back to Delaware County at the same time!

Special thanks to Dandelions Flowers and Gifts, Jacks Camera and Gill Brothers Furniture for working with me!
