Each year the Muncie Star Press sponsors the annual Muncie Area’s Finest competition. Readers can vote for their favorite local businesses, restaurants, events, activities and services. Kishel Photography has won in 2 categories: Muncie’s Finest Photography Studio, and Muncie’s finest photographer for the past 3 years and we’re so thrilled to add another year to our record! This week we went to the 2014 Muncie Area’s Finest winner’s reception to receive our plaque for this year and be recognized by The Star Press for the studio’s excellence in our community.
Thanks to everyone who voted for us this year and thank you to all of our supporters! Marsh was the host of this year’s soiree…Here’s a fun little impromptu photo shoot we did afterwards…
Just in case you haven’t been downtown lately…we’re in the middle of Historically restoring the facade of our studio building! Please pardon the destruction~ but it will be fabulous when it’s finished! Until New Years (when the project should be completed) we’re asking clients to please use our Backdoor entrance when possible~ yes, there’s better parking back there too! Be sure to like our posts and pictures to be sure our updates stay in your newsfeed! Here’s a few from today’s demolition!! PS. they’ll be a huge party celebrating the finished project~ as we near the end we’ll be posting the details!!
We like to stand out and think of creative ways to get our studio name out there…Amanda’s latest brilliant marketing endeavor? Have a float in Ball State’s Homecoming parade! What a fun and unique way to get our senior models involved in spreading the word, and getting our Kishel brand out there! Our senior model program is full of fun surprise perks like being involved in our float this year for the parade! The theme? There’s no place like homecoming! With a Wizard of Oz theme, we came up with the best idea to incorporate it into showing what our photography studio is all about. We did a “glammed” up Dorothy(complete with the cutest Toto ever!), a glam Glinda, and coordinated our 2014 senior models with red sparkly lips and all! With Glinda’s bubbles surrounding us, and the Tin man DJing our very own custom “Kishel” Wizard of Oz mix, we featured a live glam shoot with Dorothy on our float! It was a blast and it came together perfectly! Our models were super fun and had a great time with the crowd! We had so many people come together to make this happen-thanks to everyone for your help and creative minds coming together to make our first float so much fun!
Dorothy’s GLAM shoot live on the float!
Glammed out Glinda–good witch or wicked witch??
The whole group-all our models with Amanda!
It’s time to unveil this year’s Kishel Holiday Mini-Session featured idea! This year for our featured holiday scene, we wanted to do something that the kids and parents would both have fun with! LIGHT PAINTING!! We created this one to give you an idea of how original this idea is! Your family will be the ones creating your holiday scene by painting with finger flashlights~This is no Photoshop trick! We’ve never seen anyone do anything like this!
Every couple wants their wedding day photographs to be perfect. With all of the many aspects of planning you have to juggle to create the perfect wedding day, we thought we’d help by making up a list of tips from the photographer’s perspective that help make better wedding photos.
-We love to photograph your wedding gown on the hanger so make sure your hanger is pretty!
–Make sure flower girls and ring bearers get their naps! Don’t have them show up until they are needed for the pictures (schedule their pictures as close to ceremony time as possible). We have had so many little cuties zonk out just before the ceremony and miss their big debut down the aisle because of how worn out they are from the day’s excitement.
-If you’re traveling in the car in your wedding gown, wrap yourself in a white sheet and keep it handy for pictures in case you are outside and need to sit for a photo.
-If you’re wedding is outside and you’ll be walking in grass, get some “Solemates“!
-A lot of brides and bridesmaids naturally hold their bouquets up high by their bust line when walking down the aisle, but be sure to remember to hold your bouquet down by your midsection instead. It looks so much better in wedding photos if you don’t cover the top of your dress, and works better with proportions to hold it lower!
-Another flower tip–make sure you talk with your maid of honor about remembering to take your bouquet once you’re up with your groom saying your wedding vows, and exchanging the rings. You wouldn’t believe how many people forget and it makes it awkward for you to try to juggle both!
-Walk SLOWLY down the aisle…this gives not only the photographer time to capture your walk down the aisle, but it gives the guests a chance to take in the moment and see the details about how stunning you look!
-Smile more! The moment you’ve been dreaming of has finally arrived! You will likely feel a little anxious, but try to take deep breathes throughout the day and relax to enjoy the moments!
-Remember to eat and stay hydrated! Especially now that we’re fast approaching the warmer season…can’t have a bride passing out on her big day!
-Show your love….a wedding photographer’s favorite thing is to have a couple who genuinely shows their love all day long. So remember to look at each other often, show off your feelings for each other-if there ever was a time for PDA, your wedding day is the day! And stay together at the reception…Spend time visiting with family and friends together, eat together, and of course, dance with each other!
Most importantly, remember to have fun, don’t worry about the small things and remember what the day is really about!
One of our favorite times of the year is when spring fades into summer and the warm weather and sunshine is finally here! You know what this means for a photography studio like Kishel Photography? We get to do one of the most creative types of sessions we offer-underwater sessions! We’re so excited to be in our second year of underwater photography sessions! Although it’s chilly now, summer will be here before you know it and we’ll be booking sessions like crazy with the warm weather drawing everyone outside for all types of sessions…and no doubt many will take place in the pool!
We love to be creative, and we love meeting people who are daring and want to take the plunge into the under water world with us. Down there, it’s the most ethereal and stunning world for portraits.
Here are some favorites from last year!
We have so much fun with all types of seniors who want to take the plunge!
Not only are our underwater portrait sessions perfect for swimmers and lifeguards, but also brides…don’t worry, it didn’t ruin the dress at all!
Underwater photography is just a way to spice up your photo shoot no matter who you are!
We even have special waterproof makeup that stays on throughout the session…
Stay tuned this season for some family underwater session photos as well!
We’ll be booking underwater portrait sessions soon!

Here is a quick peek into last year’s show:
What a fabulous & fun wedding! Ever since their engagement photos, we’ve been looking forward to this couple’s wedding day! The ceremony was held in the brides childhood Catholic Church, she was nervous….he was nervous….but everyone else melted away once Craig saw his bride walking down the aisle. After the ceremony we took the bridal party to this very cool historic train depot for pictures! Such a unique location~ I love how we worked the tracks, the depot & the old train cars! Next we were off to the reception at Willowbrook Country Club. Such a gorgeous venue, all done in black & white with vintage accents. Congratulations Megan & Craig!!
After their engagement session, complete with a yellow VW bus….I knew Shea & Christina Hill’s wedding was going to be one of my favorites this year! We had a great time posing them in some very fun places that meant a lot to them (swimming pool anyone?) Such a fun time with this couple and their wedding party on their big day. We love when the bride and groom pull off a lot of different looks in one day-fun, romantic, soft, edgy, classic and adventurous!
A classy couple, with a hint of sporty and a dash of crazy (check out the entrance dance towards the end of the video), they definitely pulled off a perfect wedding day! Enjoy!!
